Massage for Emotional Release

It is impossible to touch someone physically with out touching them emotionally. If you think about how we tense up against the forces of a harsh wind, then we can begin to see that we may also have a physical response to harsh words and difficult situations in our lives.

Research has shown that in fact we have a cellular memory, that we hold memories of experiences within our tissues.

It is common therefore when we touch someone, in a safe and nurturing way, that we are also giving them a safe haven in which to release emotion.

If someone cries when receiving a massage then reassure them, perhaps discontinue the massage for a while, but stay in contact with them, offer them tissues and a sympathetic listening ear, and allow the emotional release to happen.

Only continue the massage when they are ready and indicate this is so.

Massage is extremely beneficial and supporting during times of emotional upset, grief and bereavement. It helps the person feel cared for and nurtured, and they may also experience an opening up and a greater desire to talk about their grief and express their feelings.

Essential oils that assist an emotional release and grief are lavender, neroli, bergamot, basil, rosemary, rose, and geranium. Put a few drops on a tissue for the person to inhale as they receive the massage.

In times of grief we need to be treated gently and this is equally true when giving massage.

10 Key Reasons to Train With Essentials for Health

10 Key Reasons to Train With Essentials for Health

The easiest way to explain why you should choose us is to tell you why other people say they chose to study with us:

1.     We have a 20 year track record of success:  Over that time a lot of thought has gone into developing and refining our courses to ensure that you get the ultimate in professional training.  Our goal is to make you one of the very best massage therapists in the UK.

2.     We provide the ultimate support:  Over 90% of our students come to us after several years in an initial career.  So we understand that it may be a while since you last studied. Our tutors will go the extra mile to support you every step of the way.

3.     We provide the highest level qualification in the country: We are currently the only massage school teaching to the BTEC Professional National Diploma standard. This is the highest qualification for massage in the UK and is taught at a level equivalent to that taught on the first year of an ordinary degree.  So with this qualification you will be a "cut above the rest”.

4.     All our tutors are highly knowledgeable and experienced: 60% to 70% of tutors who apply to teach for us are rejected. Each tutor is carefully selected for their deep knowledge, extensive work experience and ability to teach creatively and passion for their subject. And because all our tutors are actively practicing as therapists, you will be benefiting from real life experience.  Each teacher goes through further training with us to learn the "Essentials for Health way” before they are allowed to teach you.  As a testament to this, invariably at the end of each course, when we ask our students what they like most about us, the answer 100% of the time is "the tutors”.

5.     We provide thorough, professional and inspiring training: Our teachers spend a huge amount of time preparing for each class. And because of this the delivery is very creative and very inspiring.

6.     We provide an active, hands-on, fun and positive approach to learning:  We teach you using accelerated learning techniques to help you easily absorb what you are taught so that you have the best chance to pass your examinations with flying colours. Studies show that using this approach can dramatically increase what you remember from class by as much as 300% or more when compared to "traditional chalk and talk”.  It's fun. It's positive. It's never dull in class.  It's always exciting and energizing. You may even wonder why every school is not doing this.

7.     We will give you the confidence to give the quality massage your clients prefer:  When you study with us you learn each massage technique thoroughly and will be taught a wide variety of different powerful techniques. Our graduates often comment on how their massage is what their clients prefer over and above any they have received elsewhere, including well known spas and health clubs.

8.     We provide unique extra course elements over and above the basic syllabus: Our training includes several aspects not found in a basic massage therapy certification syllabus that add the extra special touch to your competence when you are practicing as a therapist.

9.     We assist you in building lasting relationships with other students and our tutors: Because of our highly interactive training, you will develop personal lasting relationships with the people you meet on the course and the tutors.

10.   We provide a unique 30 week e-mail business plan support programme: Created by our Managing Director and award winning entrepreneur Gill Tree, Gill is also the business writer for Massage World and Reflexions Magazines.

Essentials for Health will be 21 this year and as our part of our celebrations we are offering sponsorship for a limited number of  places on our massage and sports massage diploma courses throughout 2013.

I started Essentials for Health to change the world though the healing power of touch. My previous experience in social work led me to working with some of the most vulnerable people in our society including those who were alcohol and drug dependent, the homeless, those with physical and learning disabilities and the acutely ill.
Early in the company's history we had strong links with the local community in east London where EfH was born and many of our students through Essentials for Health were able to work with similarly vulnerable groups.
I have always wanted to continue this work and believe that our sponsorship scheme is the way forward.

The sponsorship scheme will be open to people who meet one of the following criteria:
  • People who may not be able to afford our full fee  but for whom doing the course would change their life around (for example a single Mum or someone made redundant who cant find work)
  • People who plan to use  massage with a special group of people within their community (for example taking massage to a school for children with special needs)
  • People who plan to  use massage in their work.  (for example a nurse going to use it with their patients)
 The terms and conditions
Sponsorship will be for 50% of the full course fees.
A deposit of £200 will be required to secure your place and the balance of the reduced fees can be paid by instalments.
The scheme applies to any Essentials for Health Diploma course commencing in 2013
All our usual terms and conditions apply

Networking

Get Networking

Networking is going out to business breakfasts and meetings and specific networking events to meet many people, swap business cards and help support each other with business leads.
I think networking is an extremely important business activity, but it needs to be done selectively. I am quite a social animal and have really enjoyed going out and networking and meeting interesting people. That in itself served a purpose. It kept my energy high for my business and I would come back with some new ideas. There are lots of networking clubs and groups. Your professional association may well have regional groups that meet, the local chamber of commerce will have meetings and the virtual networking club ecademy http://www.ecademy.com/ will have local meetings.

However did it bring me any business?
No! Not until I was clear about who I needed to network with and collaborate with. (More about collaborations in a future step).
Listed below are guidelines for making the most of networking.
Network with Purpose
Before you sign up for a networking event, think about reason for attending. Decide your goals and what you hope to accomplish. You may not achieve them straight away but thinking this way really gets your prepared and you will improve with networking practice. Often what happens at networking events is that you develop stepping stones to where you want to be.
Goals may be:
·         To get ideas for how to run your business
·         Find out about opportunities for working in clinics and centres in the community
·         Practice giving an elevator pitch (giving a short promotional presentation)

Prepare your pitch
Often at networking events you will be invited to give a short presentation. Grab this opportunity with both hands. In later steps I will be talking about how important public speaking is to your success (and how many people who would rather die than speak in public have become great speakers!).
Practice in front of the mirror at home a one minute presentation clearly stating with warmth and humour why you are the person to book for your particular speciality.
Practice scanning the room and making eye contact and smiling as you speak.
Be prepared
Make sure you arrive on time and are armed with plenty of business cards and promotional flyers. If you’ve booked an event be sure to attend- no dropping out because of nerves ort a better offer or feeling too tired!
Make sure if you promise something to someone that you do the follow up within 48 hours of the event. Remember what goes around, comes around and your success is more likely if you are congruent.
 Network and be yourself
People are more like to trust and warm to you if you are sincere and are being yourself.  Be interested, listen, be genuine, honest, friendly and giving
Network with a view to giving support and help
When you are networking your thoughts should be on “how can I help” rather than how can I sell my service. If you have this mindset, when you present a particular issue or problem people will want to help you too. So for example, I recently met a woman at an event who I know would really benefit from being in touch with 3 business people I know. I have called them to see if they would be interested in speaking with her and put them together. What I get from that is the satisfaction of helping and knowing that there are other like minded people at networking events who will do the same for me.
